5 Tips To Help Maintain Your Home Appliances

Every day, hundreds of new modern appliances hit the market, and smart home technologies are becoming more and more popular. In fact, by 2027, it is anticipated that the market will grow by up to $4.61 billion.

If we deem your appliance not repairable, and you replace it,  you will want to protect your investment especially if it is a big ticket appliance.

So whether have purchased a new appliance, or want to prolong the life of your existing one, we recommend these 5 tips to help maintain your home appliances.

If you properly maintain your electrical equipment it will keep running longer and work more efficiently.

So how do you maintain appliances like a dishwasher, washing machine or oven?
Here are five suggestions for keeping your appliances in good operating order.

1. Do not overload your Washing Machine

Everyone has experienced moments when they have worn more clothing than normal and need to load a large amount of laundry into the washing machine. Nonetheless, you should only do smaller loads for 1.) A cleaner wash, and 2.) to extend the life of your machine.

When you overload the washing machine the majority of the time you use it, the agitator will eventually suffer damage and the machine won’t be able to rotate to wash the clothing.

2. Check on the seals on your Freezer and Fridge

Our refrigerators are important for keeping our food and drink items cold and fresh.

A broken or damaged fridge seal can have multiple negative effects for your appliance.

It will mean that your refrigerator will lose cold air, even when the door is closed. This increases the workload on your compressor, which can shorten the lifespan of your fridge or freezer. Another negative is it will increase your electricity bill. (with the rising cost of electricity, we need to save our consumption wherever we can)

Properly clean the seals in refrigerator or freezer and replace them when they are broken. Call us if you would like us to inspect your fridge or freezer seals.

3. Regularly clean Your Dishwasher

A dishwasher cleans your plates and cutlery, but did you know your dishwasher also needs to be cleaned? All that washed-off food and particles can clog the filters and spray arms.

The best way to clean your dishwasher is to spray vinegar or lemon juice throughout the dishwasher to clear those blockages.

4. Clean Up Any Spills in the Oven

The oven is one of the most used and most important kitchen appliances.

Your oven should be maintained on a regular basis. One way to maintain it is by cleaning the oven after each use.

Doing this prevents the spills and food from hardening with the next use. The heat will make it stick to the oven’s walls, which could cause damage when trying to remove it in the future. It is much easier and better for your oven to clean it once your oven has cooled after each use.

Our Tip

To clean your oven, particularly with hard to shift spills, mix vinegar, dishwashing liquid, and baking soda into a paste and work it into the stain or spill. Remove the mix with a clean cloth.

5. Clear the lint in your tumble dryer

Before starting a new load of laundry to dry you should make sure there is no lint on your dryer’s lint filter. It is important to do this before each use! If not, the lint could build up could potentially cause a fire. It can also cause the dryer to not heat enough to dry your wet clothes.

Make appliance maintenance part of your everyday routine to prolong the lifespan of your appliances.
